Creating six unique icons to represent New Smyrna Beach posed a distinctive challenge. The icons required a vibrant color palette and versatility to maintain visual appeal in various formats, including color, black and white, and varying sizes. Drawing inspiration from 1950s screen-printed postcards, the aim was to encapsulate the essence of New Smyrna Beach in each icon. The selection includes symbols such as sharks, emblematic of the area’s reputation as the shark capital of the world; oranges, representing Florida’s renowned fruit; a surfboard symbolizing the beach’s thriving surf culture; an alligator, a nod to the region’s abundant swamplands; a palm tree, synonymous with Florida’s tropical landscape; and finally, a sun, serving as a beacon of Florida’s warmth and sunshine.
